So as mentioned in one of my previous posts, I’m a Media Makeup and Hair student and this means I get to work on a variety of different people who, obviously, have different skin tones. This means that in my kit, I need a variety of different foundations that will suit the other girls in my class. I mainly bought the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation because it was on offer in Boots at the time AND I’d read some really good reviews on it.
Oh, and it was the only foundation in my local Boots that was light enough for me and the girl I primarily work with.
I wanted to keep the foundation only for college use because I wouldn’t run out as fast but once I used it, I couldn’t stop! It’s quickly become one of my favourite foundations!
As for the concealers, I bought the three lightest shades (We’re a pretty light skinned class) of a different type of concealer because the Healthy Mix concealers swatched too dark on me and I was looking for something lighter than the foundations.
I mentioned in a really early post that for me, nothing really beats my N07 Match Made foundation and concealer but I think I may have found a rival…
Healthy Mix Foundation
For some reason I never buy non matte foundations. I seem to only buy matte foundation but it dries my skin out and makes any dry patches look 1000x worse. This isn’t marketed as a matte foundation so I was slightly reluctant to use it, worried it would make my skin look really oily.
This is supposed to be an anti-fatigue product and to make me look less tired is no easy feat. But I must say, I looked more awake than usual and that’s saying something considering I first tried it before work at 5:30 in the morning! I went to work looking awake and ready for the day despite being half asleep.
One thing I noticed when I first applied it was how yellow toned it was on my skin. When I told my friend that I bought this foundation, her first response was about how yellow toned it is so I don’t think this is a problem only experienced by me. However, after a few minutes of it oxidizing and sitting on my skin, that yellow tone did disappear and look less noticeable.
I adore the formula of this foundation. It’s creamy and smooth and lightweight on the skin. It doesn’t cling to my dry patches and as for claiming it stays put for 16 hours? It’s definitely done that for me! I work in a hospital (notoriously warm and let me tell you, labs are no exception. If anything they are worse) and even by the time I get home at 7:30 ish, my base still looks flawless! Bearing in mind my makeup goes on at 5am ish and gets taken off at either 10pm or 11pm… The only thing that I find annoying is that my smile lines crease no matter how much I set them. But this happens with every foundation I use.
The pump dispenses a small amount of makeup each time and one full pump covers nearly my whole face when I use a makeup brush. I’ve yet to apply this foundation with a beauty sponge however, I do use a sponge after the brush just to blend it out further.
The product works well with powder and cream products. In the past, I’ve had foundations that don’t work well with powders or creams but this one seems pretty versatile.
Overall I really love this foundation. I will definitely be buying again as it’s inexpensive and works well on my skin. There’s no irritation or reaction and my god, that’s becoming rarer each and every day!
Radiance Reveal Concealer
The struggle to find a concealer light enough for my skin has been pretty real. I’ve bought concealers from here there and everywhere trying to find one light enough but alas, they are all too dark.
But finally, I have found a match! It’s light enough for my under eye area and other areas of highlight!
My only gripe is that it has a pink undertone while my foundations usually have yellow or warm undertones. However, once blended this isn’t too noticeable and for now, the fact it’s light enough is good enough for me.
Like the Healthy Mix foundation, it’s a creamy formula and wears really well through the day. Again, it stays firmly in place even after a long day at work. It’s also super lightweight and doesn’t pull down my under eyes or get cakey with powder and time. How it applies in the morning is how it stays all day and looks when I come to take it off.
For me, the amount of product I get when I first take the wand out of the jar is all I need to do my under eyes and chin, nose and forehead highlight. A little product goes a long way and I use a sponge to apply it. It does apply really well with a sponge but I am yet to try applying it with a brush but that being said, I don’t ever apply my highlight/concealer with a brush.
Overall, these are two really great products. One main flaw though is that the shade range is really small and very exclusive to pale skinned people. There’s no options for darker skin and this is fairly disappointing. It’s so far the only brand that I have seen that has no option at all for darker skin tones. This seems to be the case across their entire range by the looks of their website and this is the major downside for me- the lack of representation for people of colour.
I do 100% recommend trying this foundation and concealer if you can find a shade to match! The formula and longevity is great compared to other foundations I have used. One thing I will say is that a few of the foundation shades are really similar and the 2 darker concealer shades are really dark, as you can see in the swatch photos. I don’t think these are products you could buy blind- definitely try them first!
Have you used this foundation or concealer? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!
