For Christmas, I got the StylPro Brush Cleaner and I was so excited to try it out. I am too lazy when it comes to washing my makeup brushes so this seemed like the perfect accessory to get me cleaning my brushes a little bit more.
In theory, it’s a great idea. Cleaning and drying your brushes in under 30 seconds- washing all my brushes by hand takes me almost 2 hours then so much longer to dry them! But for me? It did not float my boat at all.
There will be a video on my YouTube channel where I do my true and honest first impressions but for now, here’s what I thought of the StylPro Brush Cleaner.
The concept of this product is great.
For makeup artists wanting to wash their brushes quickly between clients and people who clean their brushes really often, then this is great. But if you’re like me and do a deep clean every two weeks (after the makeup has started to coat the bristles a little bit more than it should…) then this probably isn’t the best option.
If you have more clean brushes than me (you should have SEEN my foundation brush) then you’ll probably fare fine and when I’ve watched review videos, nearly everyone with fairly clean brushes have a successful experience.
I can see this being handy for making me clean my brushes more often because when the brushes did clean because they were less dirty, it was really fast. Instead of taking 2 minutes per brush to scrub and rinse etc, it took 30 seconds to clean and dry. For the brushes that worked, I was really impressed.
Like I said, when the product did actually clean my brushes and dry them successfully, it was brilliant. The 3 brushes that I cleaned on camera made me lose all faith but when I tried a cleaner brush that was more fluffy, I nearly did a happy dance because it worked flawlessly.
It’s also very compact. It all sits together on my makeshift vanity and doesn’t get in the way. Everything has it’s place and the collars have a little holder so they don’t get lost.
I guess another pro is that for most people, this is a great idea. It’s innovative and if I can get into the habit of cleaning my brushes much more often, then I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this.
But for me, that’s where the pros stop.
It does not work for really dirty brushes. You want to clean your foundation brush that’s starting to look pretty gross? No chance.
I tried washing my foundation brush 6 times and it barely touched the gunk however it took about 10 seconds in the sink with a handheld scrubbing tool to remove every last trace of foundation and residue. And that’s how most of the afternoon went. I washed around 10 brushes successfully with the StylPro and then the rest in the sink.
I saw somewhere say that all kinds of brushes can be washed but I struggled to wash my angled liner brushes, pencil brushes etc. Medium fluffy brushes were the sweet spot. The only ones I managed to clean.
I also DO NOT APPRECIATE HOW TORN UP MY MORPHE BRUSHES GOT.
You’ll see on my YouTube video, I almost cried.
My perfectly shaped Morphe eyeshadow brushes look worse for wear. Bristles are poking out, they’ve lost their shape and they’ve lost their soft touch.
I was outraged.
I think fluffy brushes wok best. Stiffer bristled brushes are meant to hold their shape for a reason so aren’t meant to spread wide like fluffy brushes- I think this is why they don’t dry or clean as easy as the fluffy brushes I own.
One other thing I don’t like is that unless I use a sink (which kind of defeats the object of having the StylPro) I don’t get a clean rinse. My brushes come out sudsy and covered in soap residue.
It’s frustrating because I wanted to love this product. I really did. But it didn’t work for me today.
I’m hoping that if I can get into a routine of cleaning my brushes as soon as I use them, I can really utilize this product but for now, my verdict is pretty negative.
Which is sad because my mum stood apologising for buying it when I showed her my brushes.
I’ve seen proof- it’s not a bad product! It just hasn’t worked for me!
Have you used the StylPro? What did you think of it? Let me know!
